The Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition goal is to pay a tribute to one of the greatest clarinetists of the 20th Century.
The public stage of the 7th Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition will take place from October, 18th to 25th 2025 in Rouen, France. It is organized by the Association du concours international de clarinette Jacques Lancelot
Clarinetists of all nationality born between October 26, 1990 and October 18, 2007 may participate.
Finalists of the previous editions of the Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition are exempted from pre-selection. However, registration is still required.
First Prize winners of the previous editions of the Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition are not allowed to participate.
Registration will be dealt with exclusively online on the website : www.concours-jacques-lancelot.org. It includes :
- online payment via PayPal of registration fees of 160€.
- completion of the registration form.
Registration fees are non-refundable.
At the end of the procedure, applicants must send the following documents :
- an audio-only recording of the preselection program in .mp3 format (one file per piece; maximum size of each file : 30 MB);
- the registration form filled and saved in .pdf format;
- a recent and good quality artist photo (used for competition communication);
- a curiculum vitae, in English and/or French;
- a proff of identity (passport, or National ID card for members of the European Union);
- a letter vouching for the authenticity of the recording.
The deadline for registration, including submission of preselection recordings , is March 31st, 2025.
- Registration will be final once the form is filled, the fees payed, the preselection recordings sent and after validation form the preselection board.
- A notification of the final registration will be sent to candidates via E-mail.
- The Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition will not be prosecutable in the event that a form isn't received.
- The program of the works is available on the website.
- Candidates must perform on genuine sheet music. Photocopies are prohibited (law extracts « loi du 11/03/1957, code pénal article 425 et loi du 30/06/1994 ».
- The music sheet for clarinet and piano reduction of the concerto by Guillaume Connesson edited by Billaudot will be available for purchase fefore April 25th. This work must not be performed in public before it has been premiered during the final of the Competition.
- The competition will be held in four parts : preselection on recording and three public rounds: quarter-final, semi-final) and final with orchestra.
- Aside from the preselection round, all of the events are opened to the public.
- The jury decisions are irrevocable.
- The jury's composition can be changed in the event that one of the members stands down.
- The canditates will be preselected based on their recordings. The preselection process will be anonymous.
- The recording must be free from all editing or technical modifications, nor mention the candidate identity.
- A notice to attend will be sent by Email to each candidate accepted into the quarter-final, informing them of the location, date and times of the rehearsal with piano.
- The candidates must present themselves on Saturday October 18, 2025 between 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm at the secretariat of the competition (based at the CRR of Rouen, 50 avenue de la porte des champs, 76000 Rouen, France), to confirm their participation.
- In the event a candidate wishes to drop out, inform the secretariat by Email (secretariat@concours-jacques-lancelot.org).
- If a candidate is late, the decision to let them compete belongs to the jury chair. Its decision is irrevocable.
- The events will be held between October 20 to 22, 2025 at the CRR of Rouen (50 avenue de la porte des champs, 76000 Rouen, France).
- The events will be held October 23 and 24, 2025 at the CRR (50 avenue de la porte des champs, 76000 Rouen, France).
- The final will be held October 25, 2025 at the Chapelle Corneille (30 rue Bourg-l'Abbé, 76000 Rouen, France).
- Training rooms will be made available for the candidates from October 18, 2025 and during the entire competition, according to terms that will be communicated on site.
- For each candidate, a rehearsal with piano supported by the association is planned for the quarter-final and and one for the semi-final. The participants can also decide to be accompanied by the pianist of their choice, at their own expense.
- For the three finalists, rehearsals with the Orchestra of the Rouen Opera is planned October 24, 2025, and October 25, 2025. A draw will be made to determine the order in which the finalists will perform.
- The journey and the accomodation are at the expense of the candidates.
The management of the competition reserves the right to record all or part of the events, photograph or film the candidates for advertising, archiving, television, radio or Internet broadcasting, and any existing or future means of communication, while respecting the rights of French musicians (article L212-3 du code de la propriété intellectuelle).
- Registration to the competition is also the candidate's engagement to participate to the touring attached to the First Prize, in the event that they win the competition.
- Failure to respect the rules of the competition is punishable by disqualification.
- In the event of a dispute between a candidate and the competition management, only the French version of the rules will be considered valid.

The awarding of the First Prize will be carried out in two parts, at the end of the competition and at the end of the last concert of the day. The awarding of the other prizes will be carried out at the end of the competition.
